IIDA So Cal Fashion Show 2016 – Once Upon a Time

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) supports, connects and advocates for members and professionals affiliated with the industry. One of the many industry events hosted by IIDA is the annual Haute Couture Fashion Show. This year’s IIDA Haute Couture San Diego chapter was held on November 10th at the House of Blues in the Gaslamp. The fashion show enlisted the talent of a handful of local design and architecture firms who were paired with a textile or building material sponsor, to compete making garments from sponsor-provided materials. Each year, a different theme is chosen and each firm is assigned a specific character or motif. This year’s theme was titled “Once Upon a Time…” and featured 20 unique interpretations of beloved storybook characters.

Team ACRM was tasked with designing an outfit inspired by well-known children’s book character Madeline, along with the help of our sponsors Steelcase and bkm. The materials provided by Steelcase and bkm proved to be hugely inspiring for the development of the whimsical Madeline construction. The outfit features a hat made of a Steelcase chair seat and castors, a metal tile constructed bodice, edge-binding hoop skirt and a cape structured on a metal frame.
